TL;DR

Alpha Music lets you book gigs, connect with artists and venues, get paid directly, and grow your career—all in one place.

Use directories of venues and artists, apply to gigs through the Jobs Board, manage each gig on a private page, and message collaborators with ease.

Alpha Music is your career toolbox—minimal effort, maximum impact.

So you want to be a professional musician...

You want it to be your livelihood - creating and sharing your music with the world and paying your bills.

Most of us find out pretty quickly that there's a lot more to being a professional musician than just releasing music and playing shows.

A LOT more, actually.

But believe it or not that's good news - it means you get to be in control of your own career. No more predatory labels, shady marketing firms, or frantically DM-ing people on Instagram trying to get the next gig. No more going at it all on your own. You can have a toolkit that gives you full control over your career while minimizing the time you have to spend on the non-creative aspects of it.

And that's where Alpha Music comes in.

With Alpha Music, you can be an artist again.

We're building the toolkit for you to have your music career on your terms. We make booking gigs as fast as possible for all parties involved, from prospecting to payout, and everything in between

This page is a short overview of how the site works, to help set you up for success.

And with that, let's take it from the top...

Opening Verse

First off - head over to the registration page and create your profile.

Once you register you'll be redirected to a page to fill out your profile info. The info you provide here is what venues and promoters need to book you.

If you need to finish this later you're absolutely able to - just know you'll have to complete your profile to book gigs.

Once you're done with that - you'll be redirected to your dashboard. The Dashboard gives you a broad strokes overview of your career on Alpha Music. From here you can send messages, manage bookings, update your profile, and more.

You'll also be able to connect to Stripe from here. Stripe is a payment processing company with bank-level security that we have partnered with for securely handling all of your transactions. We strongly recommend registering with them ASAP.

You must connect to Stripe to get paid and book gigs.

All gigs on Alpha Music are paid out via direct deposit, which means no more chasing down a bar owner after your gig to get a check for your band. It's all automatic. It also makes tax time much less miserable since everything you'll need for that is automatically handled by Stripe.

Second Verse

So you're all registered - now what?

Well first off - congratulations! You just took a massive step towards taking control of your own music career, and joined a community of like-minded creatives aiming to do the same.

Once you're registered we have a few resources available to start connecting with industry players:

  • The Atlas:

In the top bar click "Find Venues" to go to the Atlas.

The Atlas is a crowd-sourced directory of venues across the USA. We built it so you don't have to spend hours on Google or Facebook looking for places to play next.

You can search by city/state on the map, or by different filters in the sidebar. You can also click on a venue to view their details.

If you're logged in, you'll also be able to email them a copy of your Alpha Music profile so they can have all the info they need to book you.

If you don't see a venue on the Atlas you know of, you can click "Submit a Venue" to add it. At a minimum we only need the name/address, but the more info you can provide the better!

You'll notice some venues on the Atlas say "Registered" on their card - that means the venue is registered on Alpha Music, and does booking directly through the site.

  • The Artist Directory:

Need to get a band on your next bill? Looking for bands to get on the bill with for your next show? We've got you covered.

The Artist Directory features all of the talent on our site. Built for venues, but also useful for you if you're looking to collaborate or need a last-minute sub.

Everything you need to know about them, all in one place.

You can see their upcoming shows, message them, invite them to join a band, and more.

You can also filter by genre, location, and more, to narrow your search for the right act.

Additionally - if you go to a venue's profile page, you can see their upcoming shows, including ones where they still need talent . Which leads us too...

Getting the gig

There are several ways you can get booked on Alpha Music

  • Direct Invite:

If a venue wants to book you already - perhaps you all connected first in person - they can simply invite you to a gig. You'll have an opportunity to discuss gig details prior to taking it.

  • The Jobs Board:

Venues & Promoters/Event Organizers alike can post timeslots on the Jobs Board. You can head over there and find gigs that are of interest to you, and apply to them.

The venue will receive a copy of your profile as well as your performance history on the site. If they accept that application, you'll be notified and added to the gig.

You'll also be able to see the average payout per gig by the venue, to help in cases where they want to negotiate a price. Bear in mind - they can see the average payout you receive. We're big on transparency here.

  • Artist Invite:

Similar to Direct Invite. If another artist in the lineup recommends you, the venue can invite you to join. You'll be notified both ont he site and via email.

  • Direct Message:

You can message venues directly, but only once. They must reply to continue the conversation. Be sure to check their open slots before reaching out.

These all take less than a minute, most less than 30 seconds. It can be that easy.

Chorus

You got the gig!. Now what?

After You're Booked

You'll find out you've been booked via notification on the site and over email.

When you go to your dashboard you'll see the gig there . You'll also see it added to your shows page

You can click on the gig to see the details, and go to the Green Room for that gig. The Green Room is your hub for the gig — all details in one place plus a private group chat with everyone on the lineup.

⚠️ Payment Security - Critical Information

The single most important thing in the Green Room is the payment status.

As mentioned earlier, Alpha Music uses direct deposit.

Additionally - the event creator is required to deposit the payment for the gig ahead of time. You all are free to negotiate a price point, and you will be able, at all times, to see 1) What that price is, and 2) If the venue has deposited the money.

🚨 Do not attend a gig until funds are deposited. 🚨

We have all had someone stiff us for payment. While most of the venues on Alpha Music are awesome, it behooves you to remain diligent.

Once you and the event creator have agreed on a price, the event creator will deposit the funds for the gig. You'll be notified when this happens and be able to see it on the event page .

At that point, you're good to go! The payout for the gig will be deposited to your account 7 days after the gig. This is in part due to payment processing times, and in part to allow for any potential dispute resolution.

🚨 Cancellation

Things happen. Cars break down. Gear breaks (usually the G-string). Pandemics start. Life happens.

As of now, you may leave a lineup for any reason if:

  • Funds have not been deposited,
  • Tickets have not been sold,
  • The gig is more than 1 week out

Absent those conditions all being met, you will have to be removed from the lineup by the event creator.

There isn't really a good blanket rule for cancellations, but this was the best we could do for now. Over time we expect to allow venues to specify cancellation policies.

As always, if you have to cancel, please notify the event creator ASAP, and if at all possible - have a sub. The event creator can very easily add them from the Green Room.

Feel free to search our Artist Directory if you need a sub.

Other things you can do in the Green Room

  • You can see the lineup for the gig and view the profiles of other artists playing.
  • You can see the details of the gig and the venue/promoter/event organizer.
  • Leave the lineup if you need to cancel (refer to our cancellation policy above)

Publishing Your Gig

Once everyone is happy, the gig is published. At this point a shareable link to the gig is generated, and it's also added to your profile page for the public to see.

🎫 Ticketed Gigs

If you're doing a ticketed gig, the flow is a little different.

The ticket price will be determined ahead of time.

At publication, each member of the lineup will get a unique link to sell tickets. You can post this link on your socials, send it to your mailing list, etc.

If you are with a band, the link will be associated with the band.

When tickets are purchased via that link, your record on the site will be updated to reflect that you sold it.

Put differently - Alpha Music automatically tracks your draw.

You will not be able to see how many tickets others have sold. Only the event creator can.

The total number of tickets sold is visible on the event page , as is the payout per artist for a given gig.

The ticket link will be live until the end of the gig. Just like with guaranteed gigs, you'll be paid out 7 days after the gig.

Transparency & Accountability

These are core tenets of Alpha Music. In spirit of this, we have reviews.

Following a gig, every member of the lineup will be able to leave a review for the event organizer, and vice versa.

You can review them based on various criteria, and leave a comment if you'd like.

Reviews are hidden until both sides submit, or after 14 days.

This keeps things fair and encourages honest feedback.

Efficiency & Efficacy

The last thing to cover here is your Scorecard.

Your Scorecard is a record of your performance data on Alpha Music. It is automatically updated after each gig with things like turnout, capacity, etc. Think of it like an automated market history report.

When being considered for a gig - whether by applying to one or being invited - the event creator will be able to see your Scorecard.

We do this in part to improve communication between artists and venues, and in part to help you all make more informed booking decisions.

Conclusion

And that's it! We hope this guide has helped you understand how Alpha Music can be used to turbocharge your live music career.
